Tie Downs and Their Many Uses

Tie downs are an important tool in warehouse operations to prevent equipment from being damaged or going astray in large warehouses or storage units. A tie down harness is a common fastening device used to hold down heavy equipment or cargo during transportation. Tie downs straps are basically outfitted with extra tie downs hardware along with webbing. Most often these fastening devices are used on trucks, but there are also tie downs for standard utility vehicles that come equipped with them. Tie downs can be classified as soft, hard or spring based.

Tie downs of the hard type are made up of heavy gauge nylon coated with epoxy powder to provide added strength and durability against heavy loads. This type of tie downs has more secure fastening options than soft versions because of the extra durability and strength provided. Spring type ties downs have extra durability and long wear options and they are commonly used for light duty applications like cargo securement. A spring based tie down is made up of heavy duty polyester webbing with a heavy gauge nylon backing that's dyed with silver in an epoxy finish. Like soft versions, spring tie downs have strong fastening options that make it suitable for use in warehouse operations. Soft tie downs are also available in several colors such as blue and red for industrial applications.

Regardless of the type of tie-down system, each model serves the same purpose of securing equipment from moving when needed. While some tie-downs come with rope locks to prevent access by unauthorized personnel, manual ones still have the job to ensure that the weight of the loaded equipment is evenly distributed and there is no chance of an equipment overload. The use of a rope lock would be most appropriate if there is no one to restrain the load. Tie downs come in different forms like metal, plastic, nylon and webbing. It would depend upon your specific need and purpose as to which type of tie-downs would serve you best.
